SUNY Oneonta inaugurated Dr. Alberto J.F. Cardelle as its ninth president on Friday, Oct. 14, during a joyous ceremony held inside the college's  Alumni Field House. The inauguration ceremony was the culmination of a week’s worth of special events on campus and in the community in recognition of the important relationship between the college and the local region and highlighting President Cardelle’s inauguration theme, “Community Connections.” 
More than 400 students, staff and faculty members lent a hand this month to leave their mark on campus and celebrate the anniversary of the college’s founding by helping to paint a giant dragon wings art installation.
SUNY Oneonta’s fourth annual Mindful Mile & Fight Hunger 5K event on Sunday, Sept. 18, raised more than $5,000 for Riverside Elementary School’s Action Hero Backpack Program, a weekend meal-assistance initiative for local children.
A $9,695 grant from the Fernleigh Foundation is allowing staff at SUNY Oneonta's Biological Field Station to conduct regular testing of Cooperstown's Otsego Lake, monitor the effects of harmful algal blooms (HABs), and mitigate risk for the community.
SUNY Oneonta’s academic quad was filled with vibrant, colorful flags, booming Latin music and smiling faces as the college kicked off Latinx Heritage Month with a parade Thursday, Sept. 15. The parade was the first of several campus events organized by the Office of Equity and Inclusion and others to mark Latinx Heritage Month. Other highlights include Sept. 15 and Sept. 22 screenings hosted by the Students of Color Coalition of the popular Disney movie “Encanto” with a discussion of mental health within the BIPOC community and how it is depicted in the movie. There will also be a Latinx Heritage trivia night on Oct. 5.
