SUNY Oneonta’s emergent strategic plan prioritizes promoting professional development opportunities on campus. The Provost Fellows Program, formerly known as Administrative Fellows, seeks to further that goal by offering Oneonta faculty members valuable experience in academic leadership. The program includes a variety of mentoring and learning opportunities and enables fellows to collaborate with the Provost’s Council and various academic and administrative offices on campus.
Role of the Provost Fellow
Each Provost Fellow will work closely with a member of the Provost’s Council. They will be responsible for managing a project aligned with the university’s strategic needs. This role includes participating in leadership meetings and engaging with colleagues across different departments, including in the Office of the Provost and in other academic and administrative units.
Opportunity Duration
Faculty members looking to enhance their campus leadership experience are invited to apply for this 10-month position, which may be renewed once for a maximum of two 10-month terms. During this appointment, they will work in close collaboration with members of the Provost’s Council, including Deans, Vice Provost, and Provost.
Outcomes
Selected applicants will gain insights into academic leadership, evaluate their own skills and interests in administrative roles, and develop strategies for career advancement. Expectations for Provost Fellows include:
- Developing and/or overseeing a project that contributes to the university's institutional priorities.
- Presenting the project's outcomes at an event organized by the Faculty Center for Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship.
- Submitting a comprehensive report detailing their experiences and achievements in the program.
Current Projects
All three 2024-2025 Provost Fellows are working on Experiential Learning. They are working with a team to update the inventory of offerings and to widen opportunities on campus for students. They are developing a proposal for a comprehensive framework for both curricular and co-curricular experiential learning opportunities.
