Progression in the Dietetics Program
In order to guide students early toward degree success, the DPD has program retention standards. These are designed to ensure that you are able to complete the DPD with overall, major and science grade-point averages that will make you competitive when applying to ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internships and/or graduate school and to ensure that students who struggle are advised into a major program where they can succeed as early as possible.
Program Costs
The cost for completing the courses in the Dietetics program include university tuition and fees, textbooks, supplemental science lab fees, membership in the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, and fees for printing and special course activities. If you plan to continue the educational pathway of becoming a registered dietitian after graduation, you will incur fees applying to and attending dietetic internships.
Travel & Housing: Costs for travel to campus and housing vary. See on-campus housing fees
Books, materials and supplies: Required books and printing fees for course materials are estimated to be approximately $600 to $1,000 per semester. Some courses require more than one textbook and others require no textbooks.
Supplemental lab fees: While there are no lab fees for food and nutrition courses, chemistry and biology lab courses may require lab fees, please check with those departments to obtain the most recent fee data (~$60 per chemistry lab and $30-75 per biology lab).
Additional course fees: Food labs (Food 130 and 230) require a uniform with Chef coat, hat, apron, non-skid shoes costing ~$100. At times courses may require supplemental materials for completion of classroom projects. Supplies may include materials or food products for implementing lesson plans or extra fees for special field trips. These additional fees will be clearly outlined on the course syllabi and at times may be non-obligatory as students are offered optional assignments in lieu of the fee-incurring activity.
Membership in the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics: The dietetics program is a pre-professional program with a goal of producing leaders and professionals of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics. By holding a student membership, students can access member only sections and the Evidence-Analysis Library. Access to these sections is critical for completing many assignments in DPD courses. Membership allows students to understand the organization and the professional standards of the organization. Junior and Senior dietetic students are expected to maintain a student membership; fees are approximately $60.00 per year.
Dietetic Internship Application Process & Programs: In the February prior to graduation (or December for our Pre-selection option), students are eligible to apply for dietetic internships. The fees associated with this include an application fee to each program through DICAS (approximately $45 for first program and $20 each additional one) and a service fee to D & D Digital, the company that matches applicants and programs (approximately $50). Dietetic internship programs also may have additional application fees. Dietetic internship programs range in cost and each program should be contacted to learn more about their specific fees.
