Loyal Red Dragons

Loyal Red Dragons are a group of devoted SUNY Oneonta supporters who fuel the success of our current students by providing scholarship assistance, enabling student/faculty innovative research, and supporting efforts to continue providing an accessible, inclusive, and affordable education.

Establishing a recurring gift is the easiest and most effective way to become a Loyal Red Dragon and maximize your impact on our students, all year long.

Payroll Deduction

SUNY Oneonta employees can establish a pre-tax recurring gift through payroll deduction. Bi-weekly gifts will be automatically deducted from each pay period and designated to the fund(s) you select. Establish your payroll deduction giving today!

A donor-advised fund (DAF), which is like a charitable savings account, gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to the SUNY Oneonta Foundation and other qualified charities. You can recommend a grant or recurring grants now to make an immediate impact or use your fund as a tool for future charitable gifts.

You can also create a lasting legacy by naming the SUNY Oneonta Foundation as the beneficiary of the entire account or a percentage of the fund. With a percentage, you can create a family legacy of giving by naming your loved ones as your successor to continue recommending grants to charitable organizations.

Your endowed gift can have transformative impact on the experience of our students and faculty. A wide range of naming opportunities are available at SUNY Oneonta, including:

• Scholarships or Experiential learning funds in your name, or to honor a loved one

• Speaker series or a fund to support an academic program

Endowed Funds

Gifts to establish an endowed fund, or to grow one of our 450+ existing endowed fund, create a perpetual source of financial support. The SUNY Oneonta Foundation Board of Directors is responsible for managing the endowment. Each year, investment earnings are distributed to support the intended purpose of the endowed fund. This means that your original gift stays invested and continues to grow.

Endowments can be designated to fund scholarship awards, experiential learning opportunities, professorships, or other programs within the University.

Another resource to plan for your assets

Did you know you may have additional assets not covered in your will? If you have an IRA, 401(k), life insurance policy, or any additional accounts, these are called “non-probate assets” and they need to be planned for separately. Qualified Charitable Distributions from your IRA

If you are 70 1/2 or older, giving from your IRA helps reduce your taxable income — and for those over 73 who must take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), an IRA gift is a simple way to fulfill it! We have invested in a secure IRA donation tool to make it easier than ever to give from your IRA and receive tax benefits. It only takes a few minutes to use and will help complete your paperwork for you.
