The SUNY Oneonta curriculum is flexible, diverse and challenging, with resources to match all kinds of interests. We offer more than 100 majors, minors, and pre-professional programs, each designed to prepare you for successful careers or grad school.

Whether you know what you want to study—or you’re ready to explore and find out—Oneonta has plenty of options!
You’ll find programs at Oneonta that most SUNY schools don’t offer, including Dietetics, Fashion, Meteorology and Music Industry. We’re among only 5 percent of business programs worldwide to achieve accreditation by AACSB International - the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and we have the No. 3 Elementary Education program in the United States, according to a ranking by Teacher.org.

Hands-On Learning

Get out of the classroom and learn by doing

Nearly all of our students are involved in experiential learning, from internships and job shadowing to service-learning volunteer work, research and creative projects and leadership activities. We offer faculty-led field experiences as close to campus as our Biological Field Station – and as far away as Los Angeles, Guatemala and Peru.

These powerful experiences will not only help you discover what you really want to do, they'll give you the tools to prepare for successful careers or grad school.

Excellent Facilities

Two of our largest academic buildings have been completely renovated, with bright, open spaces and lots of cozy spots for studying or relaxing between classes.

You’ll have access to the latest science instruments and technology in our research labs and classrooms. Learn about the night sky in our digital planetarium and observatory, or get hands-on experience in our high-definition TV studio.

Explore your creative side in our Fine Arts Center, where you can mix a song in one of our music recording studios, perform in the Goodrich or Hamblin theater, or exhibit artwork in one of our galleries.

When hearing the term “artificial intelligence,” most people think of robots, spies and cars that drive themselves. But, according to Dr. Izabella Lokshina, professor and chair of SUNY Oneonta’s Department of Business, the average person is actually much more familiar with the field than they may realize.

Kirstie Kemmerer

Assistant Professor of Sociology Kirstie Kemmerer is living proof that it’s OK to change directions in life. While earning her bachelor’s in business management, she thought she wanted to be a wedding planner. Now, several years later, she has a Ph.D. and teaches classes that deal with hard-hitting issues such as domestic violence and rural crime.

Annacleta Chiweshe

When the lights are turned down, music is turned up and models hit the catwalk for the Student Fashion Society’s Spring Fashion Show at SUNY Oneonta each year, Associate Professor of Fashion and Textiles Annacleta Chiweshe is the one cheering the loudest. “It gives me a lot of satisfaction when I see students learning the skills I teach them and producing something unique,” she said.
